US Coast Guard Workshops

Beginning December 2010, GBK master trainers have been performing Environmental Compliance Workshops for the US Coast Guard around the country. During a period of reorganization during 2010, Coast Guard stations were restricted in the amount of compliance training available to them, but this is now being addressed. At least 14 workshops around the country are bringing Coast Guard personnel up to speed on all the necessary EPA, OSHA, DOT regulations as well as applicable Executive Orders and CG policy and technical manuals. Workshops have already been completed in Alaska (in Ketchikan and on Kodiak Island), Seattle (WA) and Norfollk (VA). Next up, USCG Stations at Charleston, Alameda and Honolulu.

GBK Wins New Compliance Training Contract

GBK will continue to provide instructor-led and online Environmental Officer training services for the US Army IMCOM-Europe region for FY2011. GBK and partner AMEC won the contract at the end of last year. The majority of instructor-led training will continue to be performed at US garrisons in Germany, with some courses being provided in the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. The training program focuses on complaince with applicable US and Host-Nation environmental regulation and policy, but with a heavy emphasis on hazardous materials and waste management, spill response, pollution prevention and EMS. The online training content is offered both in conjunction with the instructor-led training or as an alternative to it. The online training is supported by full LMS function to assist the client with recordkeeping and reporting tasks.

Extension of National TSA Training

GBK continues to provide training with Entereza, Inc to the TSA Highway Motor Carrier Division. Training covers voluntary Security Action Items aimed at transporters of hazardous materials althought these items are likely to become regulation in the coming months. The current contract began in July 2010 and will run through April 2011. The training has already been provided as far afield as Boston, MA to Long Beach, CA and Anchorage, AK. Nationally, hazardous materials carriers can now receive security action item CBT training through TSA. This CBT has been developed by GBK. Oil Spill Response Training (HAZWOPER/ERHMI)

Following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last year, GBK has 'fine-tuned' it's emergency response training services to deal with future incidents. Following the spill event, OSHA clarified the requirement for 24hr HAZCOM training rather than 40hr training for clean-up workers faced with the lesser hazards generally involved with beach clean-up operations. GBK is an EPA External Provider with vast experience in emergency response training and our courses meet OSHA standards under 29CFR1900.120 (HAZWOPER). Not only do we provide a full range of instructor-led training options, we are also nearing the end of our development process for full online HAZWOPER/ERHMI training to satisfy OSHA and EPA requirements. Trainees will be able to satisfy the bulk of the training requirement in an on-demand learning environment prior to completion of dress-out training in a traditional classroom or on-site setting.
