EHS Training Programs

EHS training is one of GBK's core competencies. We have a first class record of designing and implementing EHS training programs for organizations around the world and we currently stand at well over 1,000,000 contact hours delivered in seven languages and in sixteen countries. Whether it is a regulatory compliance course for your personnel, technical training for your environmental managers or a seminar previewing new or anticipated programs or technologies, GBK curricula are designed to ensure technical quality as well as a pleasant training experience. GBK holds numerous certifications/credentials and provides courses certified by a variety of organizations including: The US EPA's External Provider Program (EPA-ERTP); and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). GBK training deals with subjects ranging from environmental sampling to hazardous materials management to responding to chemical and biological weapons.

Here’s a small selection of recent EHS training delivered worldwide by GBK’s highly qualified and experienced instructors:

  • Homeland Security TSA Security Action Items: Delivered at 15 locations nationwide from Anchorage to Tampa.
  • US Army Environmental Officer training in Germany, Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands. Training delivered across the IMCOM-Europe region in English and Host-Nation languages.
  • NEPA and EMS awareness for the Federal Aviation Authority.
  • HAZWOPER training from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
  • Hazardous Waste Coordinator for US Coast Guard Atlantic Division at locations from Cape Cod down to New Orleans.
  • EMS and P2 implementation for organizations across the US and Europe.

All GBK’s training courses, whether off-the shelf or custom-built are developed from scratch using primary sources. We don’t copy from others. Our course developers and instructors are skilled in interpreting current legislation and guidance and producing courses that meet your needs in terms of compliance and performance, but are practical, interactive and interesting for the trainee. This sets us apart from many of our competitors. We design and integrate performance-based exercises and competency-based quizzes in all our courses. When the trainee completes one of our courses they return to the workplace knowing what to do next and why they are doing it.

However, a GBK training program may be seen as only a part of an overall sustainability solution. For many organizations, GBK has performed gap analyses, reviewed appropriate legislation and developed custom training to provide personnel with the competence and skills they need to perform their duties at a level well beyond minimum compliance requirements. Here are just some examples of how GBK integrates performance goals and sustainability knowledge when delivering compliance training:

  • Implementer Workshop training. 3-day training events designed to deliver the necessary skills to managers to implement management systems in their organizations or meet the requirements of Executive Orders (e.g. 13423 and 13514).
  • Emergency response trainees learn how their response actions affect the wider environment and their health and safety.
  • RCRA Hazardous waste compliance training also introduces trainees to the waste management hierarchy, pollution prevention opportunity assessments and green procurement practices.
  • Hazardous materials training incorporates on-site visits to maintenance and storage areas for a courtesy performance audit.
  • Stormwater pollution prevention courses integrate spill response training and reporting based on organization SOPs.

Furthermore, GBK takes pride in it’s sustainable delivery of all its instructor-led training:

  • It’s cheaper and greener for us to come to you – GBK can usually have an instructor on the ground anywhere in the US within 48hrs notice and within 72hrs anywhere in the world.
  • All training materials are produced duplex on paper with at least 30% recycled content.
  • Whenever possible our rental vehicles for our instructors offer good mpg. We take diesel or duel-fuel vehicles if it’s an option.
  • Hazardous materials training incorporates on-site visits to maintenance and storage areas for a courtesy performance audit.
  • And yes, when we fly, we fly coach and we participate in carbon off-setting!

USAREUR/Installation Management Agency/CDM Environmental Officer Training

22 US Army Installations, Europe-wide

US DoD facilities and personnel operating in Europe are obligated to perform under the terms of the environmental Final Governing Standards for the country of residence as well as meet the requirement of AER 200-1, and other relevant regulations, Executive Orders, Army policies and technical manuals. Since 2003, GBK have been tasked with providing on-site and online compliance services supporting the US Army in Europe to achieve this significant undertaking. GBK developed instructor-led training resources, based on gap analysis findings, to deliver installation compliance training for up to 40hrs at any one location. Training program focused on those areas found to be most in deficiency following audit findings. These were hazardous materials, hazardous waste management and spill response procedure. Courses also include pollution prevention and opportunity assessment, transportation compliance and EMS awareness as part of a proactive approach by army management to meet sustainability goals. Following the success of this training and measurable compliance improvement throughout USAREUR, GBK was tasked with developing and hosting this training as an online, SCORM-compliant delivery. Recurrent services have been provided at 22 installations in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. Delivery has been provided by GBKs highly qualified trainers in English, German, French and Italian languages.

Some milestones and deliverables included:

  • Assessment and interpretation of FGS and other protocols
  • Preparation and collation of training and support materials including slides, images and video, field trips and exercises, student training materials and references
  • Project coordination to put an instructor (or instructors)in the field with all necessary equipment and materials at the desired location and time for training delivery in any given country and language
  • Delivery of over 80 individual weeks of training to date within budget and on time.
